Why teaching?

When I was younger, I spent much time coercing my younger brother to play school with me. As I grew older, I came to the stage in my life where it was no longer "cool" to want to be a teacher, so I abandoned that desire. I never replaced my career ambition though. When I was in high school, I was a part of National Honor Society, and, as part of my community service hours, I signed up to be part of a mentoring program in the early elementary. In the mentoring program, I had the opportunity to work one-on-one with a 2nd grader each of the two years that I participated in the program. Through this experiences I realized how strong my desire was to be in a profession working with children. I was also amazed at how influential I could be in sharing my knowledge and experiences with someone younger than me.
